In agony preop.
Fixed today T12-Iliac wing instrumentation and fusion w revision L2-L5 laminectomy.
Surgical time 4.5 hrs.
EBL 1,300 cc.
Did well!!
Lessons to learn: laminectomy alone for stenosis w listhesis and or deformity usually should be accompanied w instrum and fusion to prevent recurrance and further instability.

I am 43 years old and had a harrington rod implant in 1979 (6 months with a body cast)for scoliosis (S curve-78 degrees upper curve), and also wore a backbrace for 5 years prior to the sugery (the terrible Milwaukee Brace). As I have gotten older, my back problems have gotten worse. I have spinal stenosis (level 3) and spondylotisthesis at about 75%. The 2 vertebae have fused together on their own, but still bulge. I suffered a terrilbe degree of pain (that lasted about 6 weeks) 4 years ago. I have no idea what brought it on! Somehow the nerves were being piched and caused the worst pain that I ever experienced! It was a very talented chiroporactor that actually relieved my pain and helped me to walk again. I have an orthopedic surgeon who will not operate until I can’t function on a daily basis due to severe pain. I clearly agree with this. Is my case unique or do many others have these typical problems that all are associated with one and other? I wish that I had someone to talk with.
